Exploring the Behaviour of Long Gamma-Ray Bursts with Intrinsic Afterglow Correlations: logL200s->200s

چکیده
In these proceedings, we summarise the exploration so far of the relationship between the afterglow luminosity (measured at rest frame 200s; log L200s) and average afterglow decay rate (measured from rest frame 200s onwards, α>200s) of long duration Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs), first reported in the optical/UV light curves of GRB afterglows. We show that this correlation is also present in the X-ray afterglows of GRBs as observed by Swift-XRT. We explore how the parameters of the correlation observed in both the X-ray and optical/UV light curves relate to each other and the prompt emission phase and whether these correlations are consistent with predictions of the standard afterglow model. We find that the observed correlations are consistent with a common underlying physical mechanism producing GRBs and their afterglows regardless of the detailed temporal behaviour. However, a basic afterglow model has difficulty explaining all the observed correlations. This leads us to briefly discuss alternative more complex models.

Correlations of Prompt and Afterglow Emission in Swift Long and Short Gamma Ray Bursts
Correlation studies of prompt and afterglow emissions from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) between different spectral bands has been difficult to do in the past because few bursts had comprehensive and intercomparable afterglow measurements. In this paper1 we present a large and uniform data set for correlation analysis based on bursts detected by the Swift mission. For the first time, short and long b...
متن کاملRedshift indicators for gamma - ray bursts
— The measure of the distances and luminosities of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) led to the discovery that many GRB properties are strongly correlated with their intrinsic luminosity, leading to the construction of reliable luminosity indicators. These GRB luminosity indicators have quickly found applications, like the construction of 'pseudo-redshifts', or the measure of luminosity distances, which ...
متن کاملIdentification of Two Categories of Optically Bright Gamma-ray Bursts
We present the results of a systematic analysis of the intrinsic optical afterglow light curves for a complete sample of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) observed in the period from 1997 February to 2005 August. These light curves are generally well sampled, with at least four detections in the R band. The redshifts of all the bursts in the sample are available. We derive the intrinsic R-band afterglow ...
متن کاملA Simple Two-Parameter Characterization of Gamma-Ray Burst Time Histories
A simple scheme delineates Long GRBs with similar time histories using the Internal Luminosity Function power-law index and the spectral lag. Several generalizations are made about time history morphologies: 1) GRBs with long spectral lags contain fewer pulses that are broader than those found in bursts with short spectral lags, 2) short-lag bursts with small ILF power-law indices have many nar...
متن کاملIndication of Two Classes in the Swift Short Gamma-Ray Bursts from the XRT X-Ray Afterglow Light Curves
We present the discovery of two distinct classes in the Swift short duration gamma-ray bursts (S-GRBs) from the X-Ray Telescope (XRT) X-ray afterglow light curve. We find that about 40% of the Swift S-GRBs have an X-ray afterglow light curves which only lasts less than 104 seconds after the burst trigger (hereafter short-lived S-GRBs). On the other hand, another 60% of S-GRBs have a long lastin...
